Alleluia! Christ is risen.

Lee Gatiss looks at the lectionary readings for this Easter Sunday, and shares two prayers suitable for use at the present time.

Our God and Father,
in whose great mercy we have been given new birth
into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead:
strengthen us with that solid hope
and calm our anxious thoughts and fears
in the midst of the dangers we now face,
that we who often stagger in desperate times
may rejoice and be satisfied with him
whose painful anguish of soul brought us the light of life.
For we ask in Jesus’s name,

Lord Jesus,
who was delivered over to death for our sins
and was raised to life for our justification:
fill our hearts with thankful praise for all the blessings we enjoy in this life
and, having been justified by your grace alone,
renew our hope of eternal life,
O Christ our healer and redeemer,
