Vaughan Roberts on the Proposed Merger
Posted by Vaughan Roberts, 24 Feb 2018
As a longstanding member of Church Society, Vaughan Roberts, the Rector of St Ebbe's, Oxford, talks about the proposed merger between Church Society, Reform, and the Fellowship of Word & Spirit.
I’m very pleased indeed about the coming together of the Church Society, Reform, and the Fellowship of Word and Spirit. It’s been long overdue. For whatever reason, these groups were separate in the past; and some of the reasons might have made sense then. They don’t make sense today.
It’s just great that we are coming together with a common focus to work together for the cause of the gospel and to contend against error in the Church of England. So I very much hope that those who are members of Reform who are not members of Church Society, or members of the Fellowship of Word and Spirit who are not members of Church Society, do join Church Society.
I myself have been a member for 30 years. I have greatly benefitted from the publications. I’m delighted by some of the things that have been going on recently. The JAEC conference, the Junior Anglican Evangelical Conference, is a great thing. I’m sure with new impetus from new members, Church Society will grow from strength to strength.
I would say we desperately need unity also with those conservative evangelical Anglicans who for whatever reason find themselves outside the Church of England. So while uniting for the cause of the gospel in the Church of England under this new look Church Society, it’s vital that we remain together in umbrella groups like GAFCON and the ReNew conference, with all conservative evangelical Anglicans working together in this country.
