Theology Thursday: the English Reformers on Salvation
Posted by Ros Clarke, 20 Jul 2017
Donald Allister addresses the Church Society Conference in 1991 on the subject of the English Reformers' teaching on salvation.
Donald Allister introduces the teaching of the English Reformers on salvation, largely in their own words. This talk is a wonderful encouragement to remember the Reformation foundations of the Church of England, through the personal testimonies of those who were there. Allister introduces five themes: conviction of sin; the Roman church’s inability to help those convicted of their sin; the discovery of the truth in scripture; the liberating experience of salvation; the longing to see others won for Christ. He illustrates these through lengthy quotations from Thomas Bilney, Hugh Latimer, William Tyndale, Thomas Cranmer and others.
