The Spring 2019 edition of Crossway is now published.
The latest edition of Crossway is packed with encouraging and challenging articles to help us all consider how we can be working for gospel growth. George Crowder begins by considering how we can do better at engaging every member of our churches in ministry in different ways, and Amanda Brewerton’s account of a recent mission week in her church shows what this can look like in practice. David Peet’s timely article on who should consider standing for PCC is a must-read for anyone thinking about serving in this capacity.
Donald John Maclean has given us a concise summary of his St Antholin lecture from 2018, in which he considered the ‘Father of Puritanism’, William Perkins, to see how he viewed the church, and how that relates to the Church of England today. Be encouraged that we are indeed ‘a true church of God’, despite the many and great failings and errors. This edition of Crossway includes two book reviews, both related to some of the struggles in the contemporary church: Glorify God in Your Body, by Martin Davie, and Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage by Jim Newheiser. Gender, sexuality and marriage are issues we need to be clear about both in dealing with pastoral situations in the local church, and to be equipped to engage in national church debates.
Finally, we’re glad to include an article by Caroline Eade of Edward Connor Solicitors, a Christian legal firm, explaining what they have to offer Church of England churches.
Whether you are serving the gospel by washing up after an evangelistic event or by setting up a trust fund for gospel work in your parish, considering standing for PCC or simply helping a Christian friend through their struggles with their sexuality, wondering whether there’s any reason to stay in the Church of England or looking for ways to contend for the gospel within it, this edition of Crossway is for you!
