Saturday sermon: Zephaniah 1:1-18
Posted by Ros Clarke, 8 Jul 2017
On Saturdays, we're highlighting great sermons you might have missed. If you've heard a really good sermon in an Anglican church lately, and it's available to listen to online, please let us know!
This week’s Saturday Sermon is Joel Edwards on Zephaniah 1:1-18 at Dagenham Parish Church, preached on 23rd April, 2017.
Joel’s sermon is a model of clarity. He doesn’t shy away from the destruction and judgment in the passage, but shows us that it is inevitable and unavoidable. God must respond to his people’s disloyalty with punishment. The sermon is full of references to contemporary life and culture, with applications scattered throughout. Joel doesn’t expect or require any prior knowledge from his hearers, but nor does he dumb down the content of what he’s preaching. There’s plenty here for the mature Christian to reflect on, as well as a challenge to the unbeliever.
Listen here: God will punish rebellion: A day of reckoning is coming!
