Ministry Monday: Kirsty Birkett on building resilience for ministry
Posted by Sophia Akouo, 30 Jan 2017
At the JAEC conference last summer, Kirsty Birkett, explained how we can build resilience for long-term ministry.
Revd Dr Kirsty Birkett, Lecturer at Oak Hill Theological College, gave a terrific presentation based on her study of secular research into what makes people resilient in stressful conditions. Studies show experience of suffering, hope and optimism, altruism, forgiveness, building community, and thankfulness all help build resilience. In short, secular research shows that the best way to deal with stress is to not be secular! This was of great encouragement as we seek to be resilient despite the challenges of contending in the Church of England.
